Did you suffer ill effects from a medication or medical device?

If so, you may be eligible to receive compensation for your pain and suffering, medical bills and financial losses.

Meldofsky Law Firm has worked with clients who’ve suffered a range of adverse health effects and even lost loved ones as the result of a faulty medical device or drug. From medical devices like transvaginal mesh and hip implants, to medications like Xarelto and Risperdal, there are many devices and drugs that have left patients with severe and unexpected side effects, medical complications, permanent injuries and chronic pain.

The following is an overview of some of the cases we’ve recently handled.

Risperdal Lawsuits

Risperdal is a medication that’s prescribed to treat a variety of conditions, such as schizophrenia, autism-related agitation and bipolar disorder. Unfortunately, one of the side effects of this drug is gynecomastia, which results in the development of breast tissue in males, primarily young and still-developing pre-teen and teen males.

The condition can lead to low self-esteem and social problems. Often, a mastectomy operation is the only viable option for correcting gynecomastia, yet many patient claim that they were never cautioned about this serious side-effect. This atypical antipsychotic drug is manufactured by Johnson ∓ Johnson subsidiary, Janssen Pharmaceuticals.

We’ve worked with many clients who’ve sought compensation from Janssen Pharmaceuticals/Johnson ∓ Johnson for medical bills, emotional distress and other losses.

Xarelto Lawsuits

Xarelto is an anticoagulant medication that’s prescribed for individuals suffering from a range of conditions such as atrial fibrillation, deep-vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and stroke risk.

Manufactured by Johnson ∓ Johnson subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals in conjunction with Bayer, the blood thinner drug lacks an antidote. This makes internal bleeding incidents extremely dangerous and in some cases, fatal.

Many patients and physicians claim that they were never warned by the manufacturer about the severe risk of uncontrolled bleeding incidents, which can range arise from something simple such as a minor cut, bruise or nose bleed. Many were not warned of the danger of internal bleeding, like brain hemorrhages, rectal bleeding, gastrointestinal bleeding and beyond.

Meldofsky Law Firm is available to assist clients who’ve suffered uncontrolled bleeding while on Xarelto. We also provide help to clients who’ve lost a loved one due to a bleeding incident after taking this blood thinner drug.

Low-T AndroGel Lawsuits

Low-T AndroGel is a gel medication used to treat low testosterone. Manufactured by Abbott and AbbVie, the hormone replacement drug known as AndroGel carries the risk of serious side effects, particularly cardiovascular issues.

Approved by the FDA in 2011 by Solvay Pharmaceuticals, the rights to the drug were sold to AbbVie parent company, Abbott Laboratories. The drug became wildly popular, with one in 25 men over 60 taking testosterone replacement drugs according to the Journal of American Medicine. Many men claim they were never informed of the serious risk of heart attack, stroke and blood clots. Some of these incidents proved fatal.

Meldofsky Law Firm has provided assistance to men and family members of men who suffered complications from AndroGel, including stroke, heart attack and blood clots.

Mirena IUD Lawsuits

Manufactured by Bayer Pharmaceuticals, Mirena intrauterine devices (IUDs) are implanted as a removable birth control device, which works for up to five years. The Mirena IUD emits hormones, eliminating the need for a daily pill contraceptive. But many women say they were never warned of the dangerous complications, such as vaginal hemorrhages, device expulsion and device dislocation.

Approved by the FDA in 2000, the Mirena IUD has been involved with over 45,000 reports of serious side effect incidents. It’s alleged that Bayer intentionally and knowingly sold a dangerous product, using deceptive advertising and failing to inform patients and physicians about the real risks of complication.

Some women experienced even more serious complications, such as ectopic pregnancy, uterine wall perforation and pelvic inflammatory disease — conditions which can be life-threatening and/or endanger fertility.

If you or a loved one suffered complications following the implantation of a Mirena IUD, contact the team at Meldofsky Law Firm to discuss your case with one of our compassionate consultants. Your information remains confidential at all times.

IVC Filter Lawsuits

Approved for use by the FDA in 2005, inferior vena cava filters, also known as IVC filters, are used in patients with pulmonary embolism. But nearly 1,000 individuals have suffered complications due to defective IVC filters, which fragmented and embolized within the body.

Many patients allege that they were never warned of the risks of IVC filters, which are typically recommended for patients who are prone to pulmonary embolism, but cannot take a blood thinner medication (anticoagulant).

In some individuals, the defective IVC filters proved fatal. The FDA has documented over 320 cases of device migration, nearly 150 cases of embolizations and detachment of device components, 70 IVC perforations and over 50 filter fractures. A number of the faulty IVC filters were manufactured by C.R. Bard, which released a new re-designed filter with the defect corrected.

If you or a loved one suffered complications from an IVC filter, the expert team at Meldofsky Law Firm is here to assist. Contact us today for a free and confidential consultation.

Kugel Hernia Mesh Lawsuits

Manufactured by C.R. Bard, the Kugel hernia mesh patch was designed to repair hernias that required surgical correction. But a faulty component has led to a recall and thousands of complications requiring surgical intervention.

The mesh patch design features a memory recoil ring that allows the physician to fold up the patch for insertion via a small incision; once inside the body, the ring was designed to expand the patch so it would sit flat against the hernia defect. But this recoil ring proved to be faulty, resulting in improper placement in some cases. In other cases, the ring snapped.

A number of devices have been recalled since 2005, including the Kugel oval patch with the dimensions of 6.3 x 12.3 inches, the Kugel large oval patch with the dimensions of 5.4 x 7.0 inches, the Kugel large circle patch with a diameter of 4.5 inches, the Kugel extra large oval patch with the dimensions of 8.7 x 10.7 inches, the Kugel extra large oval patch with the dimensions of 10.8 x 13.7 inches, and the Kugel extra large oval patch with the dimensions of 7.7 x 9.7 inches.

In addition to surgery to replace the mesh patch, many patients experienced other complications like infection, bowel perforation, internal bleeding, intestinal fistulae and other severe internal injuries.

If you suffered complications from a Kugel mesh hernia patch, Meldofsky Law Firm’s compassionate team is here to discuss your case.

Transvaginal Mesh Lawsuits

Transvaginal mesh patches, also called pelvic mesh or bladder slings, from a total of seven manufacturers have been recalled due to complications such as infection, incontinence, pain during intercourse, chronic pelvic pain, internal bleeding, bladder erosion, damage to internal organs and even death.

Patients claim that they were not properly warned of the dangers of transvaginal mesh devices, which critics claim were marketed in a deceptive manner. Court hearings have also revealed evidence that suggests that at least one manufacturer failed to perform trials in live humans prior to releasing their transvaginal mesh product.
